Mungo Jerry played two consecutive nights at the Processed Pea in 2010, with fans travelling in from near and far.
Rob Kamphues from Holland was there, Alan and Mick from the North East, Jim Smith and the ‘Derby mob’ and the legendary Ray ‘Cleggy’ Clegg, Mungo Jerry’s former road manager.
Most of those mentioned were ‘dragged’ up on stage by Ray to ‘assist’ with backing vocals from time-to-time. I got Wild Love!
Ray was presented with a framed photograph by ‘the Pea’ to celebrate 40 years of Mungo Jerry.
Guilfest 2010…
2010’s Guilfest saw Mungo Jerry scheduled for two separate shows, the first on Saturday night on the Good Time stage with former keyboard player, Johnny Cook returning to guest on piano.
Sunday night on the Live Acoustic stage was notable by the absence of Mr. Mungo Jerry himself, due to a combination of trafiic problems and a touch of illness.
The rest of the band carried on with a set of their own with Phil Swan covering a few Elvis numbers admirably before the full Mungo band with Ray back on board returned to close the evenings entertainment.
In 2011, we learned that our good friend, Roland Dunne had sadly passed away.
Roland was a big mate of mine and someone I first got to know back in 1971-ish when he ran the Griddlebone Club, a sort of unofficial fan club.
It was amazing as he seemed to get his hands on some very rare Mungo Jerry collectables.
He was able to supply me with bootleg live recordings, and also let me know of the Mungo track, Santo Antonio, Santo Francisco.
He had just taken over as Lonnie Donegan Jr’s manager and was for a time, Mungo Jerry’s manager.

Colne Blues Festival, 2012…
Just thought I would give you an update on yesterday’s (Saturday 25th August) performance.
MUNGO JERRY blew the joint apart!
A proposed one hour afternoon set over ran by 15 minutes, because the organisers and punters demanded an encore, which in the previous 23 years no one but no one gets.
To hear one of the organisers screaming down their mobile, “I have just witnessed one of the best f***ing sets ever here at Colne” was joy to my ears.
To be honest Ray and the band did nothing different to what they have been doing for the last couple of years, but as a unit they are gelling and allowing Ray to do what he does best and control the crowd.
It’s a rock steady rhythm and with Toby’s tasteful keyboards and Ray’s grunge guitar it combines to a total sound that would have a graveyard rocking.
When they played Open Up, the punters did open up their ears and opened up their eyes to witness a set of high quality from a band that next time, will be able to demand a placement on the bill more in keeping with what we are trying to achieve to gain lasting respect for the name that is MUNGO JERRY.

Ray Dorset on Rockabilly…
“This was the kind of music that turned me on in my pre and early teens; Rockabilly.
“I discovered the name of the genre many years later and realised that it was rooted in the blues – white ghetto music, no holds barred, NO BULLSHIT”.
One day, I would like to write, perform and record the ultimate ROCKABILLY ALBUM.
Ray Dorset, March 2013.
